For my new project I’ve looked at making my own material using pva glue and ink and waxing canvas and chiffon which I think has worked well to create a ‘mouldy’ affect

Christo and Jeanne-Claude were an artist couple (how cute) until recently. Their artwork is environmental, it’s basically wrapping famous monuments to wrapping as quaint an object as a dog house and wrapping string around them usually to make out the shape more but they do this using huuge peices of material so it’s usually on a massive scale. But the one of MANY I’ve posted photos of are their ‘surrounding Islands’ which was wrapping Biscayne Bay in Greater Miami in 1983, I like it because it puts into perspective how different they’re work is because it’s in the middle of a sea and it’s just made of fabric… cooool. Currently Christo is working despite the death of his beloved partner, which must be tough, but he’s planning on covering the Arkansas River in 42 miles of silvery material which will be a temporary piece as were many. What I love about their work is that it might not be classed as ‘art’ to many but I think they’re motive behind it which is creating art for aesthetically pleasing the viewer is suffice. Despite views that art has to be deep etc I think art created purely for making the viewer feel happy and making people look at these landscapes in a different way is just as important.
